JOB CENTER MISSION STATEMENT
The Job Center's mission is to provide ready access to a coordinated, comprehensive system of employment, education, and training services for both employers and job seekers. The intent is to provide "one stop shopping" access to the programs and services of the partner agencies.

Information is available on a variety of business, employment, training and related topics through the Job Center. The Job Center also has linkages to numerous other organizations in the community and cooperates fully with community based organizations.

TRAINING
Training assistance for new employees is available for:

  • Classroom training for General Education Diploma (GED) and High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED)
  • Customized training to fit your company's needs
  • Upgrading of skills for new or existing employees in areas such as reading, math, writing, word processing, and spreadsheets.
  • Youth apprenticeships, internships or cooperative programs
  • Formal apprenticeship information
  • On-the-job training
  • Job seeking skills and out-placement training

Program details and eligibility requirements may vary. Some services may be on a fee for service basis.

TESTING & ASSESSMENT
Skills testing of employees and work related assessment services are available to assist employers in making better hiring decisions and improving employee performance.

TESTING*

  • Basic skills testing to include math, reading and writing
  • Specific skills testing such as typing test
  • Pre-employment testing for valid work related entrance requirements.
  • Aptitude testing
  • Career assessment

ASSESSMENTS*

  • Information and referral for employee assistance
  • Job site evaluations for compliance with Americans with Disabilities Act (A.D.A.)
  • Rehabilitation assessments
  • Information and referral on other services available in the local area.

INTERNET ACCESS
The state of Wisconsin's PC based, self-referral jobs database (JOBNET) is on the internet. Available in all Job Centers, JOBNET is accessible on the World Wide Web by job seekers from their homes, libraries, schools or anywhere with internet access. The JOBNET home page contains the entire jobs database. The Universal Menu of Services assists with access to job seeking/labor market information and links to other business resources.

EMPLOYEE RECRUITMENT
The Job Center provides employers with:

  • Access to large and diverse pool of applicants including: professionals, college graduates, veterans, women and minorities.
  • Special programs for Summer Youth, Older Workers, Apprenticeships, Work Experience, Trial Jobs, and On-the-Job Training.
  • Local, statewide and national advertising of your job openings through JOBNET
  • Application procedures customized to meet your needs
  • Interview facilities available by appointment
  • Access to information on Wisconsin employment laws relating to recruitment and hiring
  • Access to special financial assistance for hiring and training new employees that meet program guidelines.
  • Temporary employees


FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE
Financial assistance may be available to employers hiring certain targeted employees through tax credits and training subsidies. Assistance in meeting operational needs may be available at no cost through work experience placements.* Help with making accomodations under the Americas with Disabilities Act is available for eligible individuals.

TRAINING SUBSIDIES

Training cost reimbursements for new employees hired from targeted groups include:

ACCOMODATIONS FOR DISABLED EMPLOYEES

Job site evaluations, training costs, building accessibility surveys, and cost of equipment needed to make special accomodations may be available.

No cost work experience employees on a limited basis (non-profit business only)*

*Federal and state law requires that no existing employees be displaced due to work experience placements.
