The Lake: (Back to Top)

If you're looking for a natural, spring fed, clear water lake with maximum potential and minimal traffic Grindstone is the one! The lake, formed by glaciers is 3,111 acres in size and has a maximum depth of 60 feet and a mean depth of 30 feet.

You'll find it living up to your expectations for all sorts of water sports: swimming, snorkeling, fishing, sailing, and water skiing to mention a few. It's especially inviting for a relaxing cruise along the 10 plus miles of shoreline, which is comparatively free of shallow bays. Everyone will enjoy a trip by the 2 islands where you'll spot the huge eagle's nest high in the pine trees. Don't forget the camera because you may see a couple of bald heads peeking up out of the nest or hear the squawking while the young ones wait "patiently" for a parent to deliver their next meal.

Lakeview Resort sits on the edge of Post Bar, a shallow bar stretching out a couple hundred yards before a drop-off. A spacious dock is situated here and makes swimming, wading or just floating in a tube very convenient.

Anglers will be pleased to

The Lake is designated by the DNR as a trophy musky lake with a 50" size minimum.

know that this large, clear, round and deep lake receives relatively low-fishing pressure. Because of its trophy potential, Grindstone has been designated by the DNR to have a 50" size limit for muskies.

It has had a long history of producing fish of this caliber including a 59-1/2 pound muskie caught by Louie Spray in the 1950's. Motor trolling is allowed on this class A musky lake.

Walleyes, Northern, bass and assorted panfish round out many a fisherman's stringer on Grindstone. Rock bars, sand bars, weed beds and quick, sharp breaks can be productive to anglers implementing a mixed bag of techniques.
