Monday’s 5-8 inches of snowfall could affect ice travel, though mid-30s temperatures and sunshine might have melted a large percentage of it.

The Hayward area received up to 12 inches of snow late last week that should have helped improve travel on the ice.

The warm temperatures and sunshine somewhat improved travel conditions by taking down the snow cover on the lakes.

Recent mild temperatures melted considerable snow on the ice, producing some slush. Cold temperatures mid-week should turn that around.

Moderate temperatures, walkable conditions, and staked snowmobile trails make lake travel easier. The ice is inconsistent, so use caution!

The current stretch of very cold might take some time to affect the inconsistent ice depths, as there is considerable insulating cover.

Anglers are doing well for most species, and there is little competition. Be aware that lakes are slushy with most travel limited to walking.

Ice conditions with the recent mild temperatures and rain continue to cause travel issues on the ice and some areas remain questionable.

Ice thickness is improving, but anyone going on the ice should continue to use extreme caution when traveling on any ice.
